As I sat on the porch over looking the dark ocean, the full moon provided just enough light to be able to see the waves reflecting light as they broke onto the shore. I just sat there listening to the waves and the occasional pop from the bubble wrap between my fingers. I decided that bubble wrap is, indeed, a fabulous invention. You'd think that bubble wrap would be tired and worn out from spending weeks on the road, crossing borders, protecting items that will soon be very close to someone's heart. But no, when the bubble wrap finally arrives at its destination, it doesn't ask for a coffee break, or a moment to rest. Instead, it lets you rip into it, tearing it apart to find out what it has been surrounding for so long. It even pops in excitement as you get closer and closer to the surprise. Then, rather than expecting you to thank it for doing such a wonderful job protecting your precious gift, it just sits quietly to the side as you get to know your newest possessions. Now the bubble wrap knows it's almost time for the climax of its very existence. After all the craziness of getting so many new things, you set it all aside and pull the bubble wrap back into your reach. You pop the first little bubble just because it looks like fun. Then another. Then you discover that popping the bubbles is the perfect therapy for pondering all the wonderfulness you just received. So you continue sitting, listening, pondering, until all the bubbles are gone. And the bubble wrap is happy too. Because it knows it has witnessed an event that can only be truly understood by you and of course, the bubble wrap. mmmm. :)
